Wlodek Pawlik was born in 1958. Pianist and composer. He is a graduate of the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music, Warsaw. There he received his classical piano training from Barbara Hesse-Bukowska. In 1990, he graduated from Hochschule fur Musik in Hamburg (Germany), where he also studied jazz composition theory and arrangement. He was awarded first place in the instrumentists category at the International Jazz Competition, Dunkirk (France), 1984, and second at the International Composers Competition, Monaco (1988). To date, he has recorded 21 records under his own moniker and performed at some of the most prestigious jazz festivals including The North Sea Jazz Festival (1998) and European Union Jazz Festival (2006 in Athens), as well as classical music festivals such as Wratislavia Cantans (with his Misterium Stabat Mater (2003). His artistic output and phonographic output have earned him widespread recognition in the mass media (The Age) daily called his tour of Australia one of 2002’s most important musical events, while professional journals (Down Beat), a magazine that forms opinions, praised his album “Turtles” featuring Randy Brecker as outstanding. Active composer of symphonic and vocal music (including piano concerto), as well as vocal-instrumental forms (opera “Via Sancta”, which was premiered at the Polish National Opera House, Warsaw in 2007, music for William Shakespeare’s sonnets), and ballet (“Flow”)), and soundtracks for movies (including “Crows”, “,,Nightwatching”,,”,,Time To die”,?,Rewers”, or,,Mistyfication”. Voted Musician Of The Year in 1988 (Akwarium Jazz Club), 1996 (Jazzi Magazine”), 2001 (Jazzi Magazine”) His works have won him numerous prizes, including the “Fryderyk 2005”, for Misterium Stabat Mater and the Polish National Television Culture Channel Award, for this trio-album, and the “Anhelli”, for the best project of the year in the jazz/rock category. At the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, he was honored for his best movie soundtrack. He was also awarded the Orly 2010 (Eagles), main prize in the Polish film industry for the same soundtrack. He recorded the album “Tykocin Jazz Suite”, in 2008 with Randy Brecker. It was released in Poland and the USA by Summit Records. It reached a high ranking in the annual jazz critics’ rankings in Poland, USA, including Best in Jazz Philadelphia Inquirer.
