Jazziz magazine has called WSU one of the “best jazz schools.” Both individuals and ensembles have been awarded by Down Beat magazine, and received top honors at major festivals such as numerous first-place awards at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festivals. WSU groups often present invited performances to prestigious conferences. They also tour, record and perform with distinguished guest performers. Ernie Watts, Jeff Coffin, Ed Calle and Jeff Coffin were among their guests. Rebecca Parris and Kevin Mahogany, as well as vibist Gary Burton, were also included. from http://libarts.wsu.edu
