Yard Byard

Jaki Byard, a jazz pianist of great rumbling mastery and quick humor, was not as well-known as he should have been but was highly respected in his day. His legacy is enriched by posthumous recordings of live performances and the testimony of his students. He mentored many generations of musicians in Northeast music schools. Yard Byard, also known as the Jaki Byard Project is almost exclusively made up of musicians who studied under him at the New England Conservatory. It was formed recently by Jamie Baum, flutist, and George Schuller, drummer. Jerome Harris plays guitar, Adam Kolker plays clarinets, and Adam Kolker plays tenor saxophone. Ugonna Okegwo plays bass. from http://www.nytimes.com
