Youn Sun Nah is well-known for her exceptional vocal talent. The Korean jazz singer’s unique ability to deliver each song in her own style, full of emotion and passion, has always captured her audience’s attention. This is followed by roaring applause. The songstress can effortlessly navigate the vocal spectrum, making her not only a vocalist but a musical instrument. French newspaper Le Monde called her “a UFO touching jazz’s universe with a powerful voice and passionate originality; Jubilation triple time.” Music was an integral part of her childhood. Her father was a conductor, and her mother was a musician. Nah began her musical journey at 23. She made her debut at a concert that was co-produced with the Korean Symphony Orchestra. This performance was her first step into the Korean music scene. Nah was making waves on the Korean music scene but she decided to make a move to Paris to study jazz and chanson in 1995. She enrolled at the CIM Jazz School, one the oldest jazz schools in Europe, determined to achieve the best. She studied at the National Music Institute of Beauvais, as well as at the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Conservatory. Nah’s natural talent for jazz was evident when she began performing regularly in jazz clubs, festivals and national theatres with her group YSN 5tet. Many musicians were thrilled to hear about this Korean wonder. Nah was also a strong participant in a variety of jazz concours, such as La Jazz a Juan Revelations. Her 2009 album, “Voyage”, reached the top ten in France and was awarded the “CHOC” title as CD of the Month (Jazzman). In France, she received the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres title in recognition of her contribution to the arts in 2009. This is one of her most important recognitions. Nah’s European career took off, but home was still taking note of her achievements abroad. In 2005, the Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism awarded her the Young Artist of the year award. Her 2009 album, “Voyage”, won the Best Jazz Award.
