The Chocolate Beau Brummels were a territory band that was based in Cincinnati in the ’20s to ’30s. They included the trombonist Vic Dickenson and the trumpeter Sy Oliver. Whyte began his career at Wilberforce University, Ohio. He was a student there and arranged and played the banjo in the band of Horace Henderson. In the early 1920s, he started leading his own bands. The Chocolate Beau Brummels were formed later in that decade. The band recorded less than a dozen sides in Richmond, Indiana, where they were recorded by the Champion, Supertone and Gennett labels. Some records were issued originally under the names Eddie Walker u0026 His Band and Smoke Jackson u0026 His Red Onions.
